Struggling with substance abuse is tough and unfortunately, many families in Indiana are watching a loved one battle this problem. If you have a problem with substance abuse and hold a job, you’re probably worried about the effect this habit is having on your productivity. You’re also probably worried about whether or not you’ll still have a job, should you decide to seek rehab treatment for your addiction.

The good news is that labor unions support drug and alcohol rehab treatment. All unions advocate for a drug-free workplace and with good reason. A worker who carries out his job under the influence of drugs or alcohol endangers himself and his workmates. Additionally, you won’t be able to concentrate if you show up to work under the influence. You are also more likely to forget some of your tasks or perform them poorly.

Depending on the kind of work you do, being impaired because of substance abuse can result in accidents which in turn lead to injuries. It’s not just employees who feel the impact of substance abuse at work, employers also count losses incurred from accidents, absenteeism, and compensation payouts.

Seeking Rehab Treatment with Union Insurance

When life becomes unbearable because of drug and alcohol addiction, the first step is admitting that you have a problem. The next step is to seek the right rehab treatment care to help you get your life back on track.

Addiction is a disease like any other and there should be no shame when seeking addiction treatment. You might be apprehensive about getting treatment but remember that hiding your problem isn’t going to make it go away. You need to not only be concerned about your health but also about avoiding incidents at work and treating the addiction before it leads to some serious consequences. This is something any employer will understand and appreciate.

One of the key concerns that come up when workers want to seek treatment for substance abuse is how to meet the costs of treatment.

If you are a union member then you’re likely to have insurance that comes along with your employment package. Your union insurance is an invaluable resource that you can depend on in this situation. You can use it to make your rehab treatment more affordable. Medical and health insurance companies nowadays provide coverage for substance abuse treatment, and many rehab programs in Indiana accept union insurance to assist you in starting your journey toward sobriety.

Rehabs and Union Insurance

Most labor unions have policies to help our employees who are battling substance abuse and they may offer a range of insurance benefits so you don’t have to meet all the costs for the treatment you require.

Addiction treatment centers such as Evolve Indy in Indiana work directly with labor unions to provide appropriate comprehensive rehab treatment for union workers. This is to enable them to have a healthy workforce.

However, before seeking treatment at the rehab facility of your choice, it’s important to consult your union representative to find out exactly what options you have regarding addiction treatment. There are many issues that you need to clarify beforehand including:

  • Whether your insurance policy covers addiction-related prescription medication that you might get as part of your treatment.
  • Whether the union insurance plan covers counseling programs associated with rehab treatment, and for how long.
  • What is your copay or deductible so you’re aware of whether you’ll have to foot some of the costs and if so, how much?
  • Whether you’re required to use a provider within their network to get maximum insurance coverage.

The Cost of Addiction Treatment under Union Insurance

Remember each insurance policy differs in what it covers. The coverage provided by your union insurance might not cover 100% of your treatment costs.

When having the conversation with your union rep, make sure you inquire about how much coverage your particular plan provides. They will most likely tell you that the costs covered depend on:

  • The treatment program you’ll enroll in. Various treatment centers provide different treatment programs to patients including inpatient and residential programs as well as partial hospitalization and standard outpatient programs.
  • The level of care and treatment services you’ll receive. Common services offered at drug rehabs include medically assisted detox to help get over severe withdrawal symptoms, therapy, counseling sessions including individual, group, and family therapy, and aftercare services to help you maintain sobriety after being discharged from the rehab facility.
  • The amenities offered and used at the facility. Some treatment facilities offer additional amenities and services that increase treatment costs e.g. massage and spa treatments, equine therapy, fitness centers, etc. Check if these are covered under your policy.
  • The duration of the program. How long your treatment lasts depends on the addiction treatment option you chose. On average, treatment lasts about 1-3 months but those with severe addiction might have to participate in a program for 6-12 months or even longer. Find out if your policy stipulates a time limit for treatment.
