Trusted Drug Treatment Center in Indiana
When considering addiction treatment, there are many different treatment options ranging from residential inpatient programs to outpatient addiction treatment. It can become daunting to narrow down all of the possible alternatives to find the one that best suits your needs. While highly beneficial in many cases, the level of service provided at an inpatient residential program may not be necessary for everyone. In some cases, a partial hospitalization program or day program may provide effective addiction treatment in a setting that does not require an overnight stay.
What Exactly is Partial Hospitalization?
Partial hospitalization programs or PHPs provide an opportunity for those seeking addiction treatment to receive intensive treatment without requiring an overnight stay at an addiction treatment facility.
Many partial hospitalization programs offer various addiction therapy options similar to those found in an inpatient setting. Some of the most common include behavioral therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy. Both of these programs are designed to help you address the negative thought patterns that led to addiction, regulate emotions, and develop new, healthy coping strategies. Partial hospitalization programs also provide individual, group, and family counseling. Some partial hospitalization programs also offer alternative therapy options like art or music therapy.
Understanding Your Options
What's the Difference Between Inpatient & Partial Day?
The primary difference between inpatient treatment programs and partial hospitalization programs is that inpatient programs require an overnight stay. Inpatient treatment programs provide care on a 24/7 basis, ensuring care and support are available any time they are needed. While at an inpatient treatment program, most of your day is spent in treatment sessions or participating in alternative therapies to ensure the most comprehensive care possible. Inpatient residential programs are often more expensive than partial hospitalization programs due to the nature of their services. During your stay at an inpatient program, you will receive meals, medical care, housing, and various other benefits not available as part of a partial hospitalization program. Most inpatient programs last a minimum of thirty days, and some can last up to six months. The duration of the program will depend on each person’s unique treatment needs.
Partial hospitalization programs offer intensive treatment while affording patients the opportunity to remain at home with family and loved ones throughout the course of treatment. Partial hospitalization programs are typically more demanding than other outpatient programs in Indiana, requiring more sessions per week. Many partial hospitalization programs are similar in intensity to residential programs. Depending on your needs, a partial hospitalization program may require an average of five visits each week with sessions lasting from four to eight hours each day.
Partial hospitalization programs are excellent options for someone who has recently completed an inpatient program but does not feel “stable” yet without ongoing therapeutic support. A partial hospitalization program can help with the transition from inpatient care to your daily routine. Partial hospitalization programs are also suggested for someone who needs detox services as these programs allow for better tracking of progress when someone is taking medications to help with withdrawal symptoms.
